Elpitha Answers Blogging

Blogging is one of those things I think that many of us think about starting but hold off for a long time. I was one of those people especially when it came to Youtube videos. I did originally have a fashion blog that I started but then stopped it and after one year began this blog, Glittermeup. Here are a few questions and answers regarding my blogging experience, that could help you out.

What do you like about blogging?
The question that is asked all the time. Blogging is great no matter what topic you are writing about because it gives you the freedom of speech, to a certain extent. You dont have to be a journalist or a work for someone in order to pursue your dream of writing/blogging, which is what I love about it. I mean I always used to look at magazines and dream about getting the chance to write for them or work in that industry. I would definitely say it is quite a difficult industry to get in to and even if you do you probably wont get to write the articles you want to. Blogging gives people a chance to prove their talent and what they are capable of writing about.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
For the reason I mentioned above and because I wanted to be a part of this beauty, fashion journalism but be my own boss. By saying that I want to be my own boss, I mean that I will not be given certain topics to write about or forced to comment on products, I might not like. This is the freedom I am talking about, if I feel like I want to blog about a certain product positively/negatively then I will. If I want to give a shout out to a fellow blogger, I will. I love reviewing products and commenting on fashion outfits - I want people to know my opinion and I want them to also know my tips/beauty secrets.

How did you choose your blog’s title?
It was a mixture of a NYC nail varnish and me adding a few more words to it. That nail varnish was pretty much the most beautiful thing in my eyes at the time and I loved how glitter pretty much describes glamour and unique beauty.

Which blogging platform do you use? Why?
I use Blogger, if you haven't already noticed. I find it easier to work around and I love how the templates fit nicely. There seem to be more tutorials on it as well, so it makes life easier if you ever get stuck and need a hand. Ever since Google has taken over as well, it all fits nicely with GFC etc.

What is the biggest challenge when it comes to blogging?
The biggest challenge has to be pleasing the readers. You will have many debates with yourself over the layout, your social media pages, how often you should be posting and what you should be posting about. The only thing I can say is that over time you will notice what your readers seem to react well too and try to follow those patterns. In five years I have changed my blog layout several times, my posts and even the topics. Lets not forget as time moves forward people want to read about different things, so I would say making sure you know what is currently trending also helps.

What are you biggest blogging achievements?
Some of my achievements have to be working with some great brands. It is a really nice feeling when you are approached by some of your favourite brands and asked to review their products. I think one of my other achievements was being honest in my reviews whilst we are on topic. I have seen many bloggers getting carried away by being tempted to rate well, when a product is not as good just so they can continue to receive free goodies. It might not be now, but at some point your readers will catch on to your monotone and it will get boring.

What is the worst blogging mistake you ever made?
In all honesty, it was interacting with bloggers who did not have the same motives as I did. I have not argued with anyone or had any weird drama but I have heard a lot about what goes on behind the scenes and I do not want to be part of it. Blogging is something that some people feel is competition, who will be the best or who will get the most products. This is not what my blog is all about and I by no means want to be associated with such immature behavior.

What are your favorite blogs?
I dont have one... Honestly if I want to read about something, I will google and choose a post from the search results. I think we are also at a stage were nearly everything has been covered. This is the reason I stopped Youtube videos because I didnt feel like I had anything new to bring to the Youtube world. I  do however follow Instagram accounts that have certain celebrities that I like, fashion garments (where you can buy them) or healthy recipes etc.

What would you like to tell your readers?
Thank you. I truly do mean it. If it wasnt for you guys this blog wouldnt be able to continue. Thank you for your comments, your likes, your follows and everything else. I really appreciate the support, I have had over the past five years. If you have good feedback or even bad feedback that you would like me to know about then just email it over to me. I love suggestions, your opinions - anything. One day I will pay you all back for the love and support.

What advise do you have to someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
Its not too late. Be yourself and be unique. If I can do it, I am certain you can too!
Dont be scared to show it to your friends. I used to be and when I eventually started telling my friends about it, the support I got was amazing.
